Former nursing professor appointed to the Order of Canada

The Faculty of Health Sciences congratulates Shirley Post on her appointment as Member to the Order of Canada (C.M.) during the Order of Canada Investiture Ceremony held on Friday, September 16, 2011. She was honoured for her contributions to improved health care for children.

A retired nurse, Post taught in the School of Nursing at the Faculty of Health Sciences and was the assistant director of the School of Nursing at the Ottawa General Hospital before becoming the first director of nursing at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) when the facility opened in 1974. She went on to co-found the Canadian Institute of Child Health.
