NPCREU Membership Categories

The following is a description of the NPCREU 3 membership categories. Interested applicants are asked to submit an application under one of the following categories.
  1. Senior members: A core group of stakeholders, including the unit’s Director/Co-Director and nurses with research and/or teaching experience in palliative care. 

     
Eligibility:

  1. Be a registered nurse;
  2. Have a Master’s or a PhD and experience conducting independent research;
  3. Hold an appointment with the University of Ottawa School of Nursing or one of its affiliated colleges;
  4. Demonstrated experiences in palliative care research or education (e.g. have been the principal investigator on a palliative care research study, have designed or delivered a university level palliative care course, etc.);
  5. Be an investigator, main collaborating partner on externally funded research that fits with NPCREU’s mission and goals;
  6. Have demonstrated the ability to mentor junior members and students (e.g. thesis supervisor for Masters or PhD students either ongoing or completed).

 

  1. Associate members: Members including other members of the interdisciplinaryteam in palliative care such as psychologists, pastoral care workers and others workers, who have experience and/or an interest in palliative care research or education.

Eligibility:

    1. Have an interest in NPCREU’s overall mission and goals
    2. Demonstrated interest or experience in palliative care research or education
    3. Note: Clinicians with experience in palliative care clinical practice are encouraged to apply at the associate member level.



  1. Affiliate members: members in this category will be similar to the Associate members except that their involvement in the NPCREU will be on a short-term basis and involve a lesser degree of commitment. The length of the appointment will be based on a mutually agreed upon timeframe with the NPCREU Director/Co-Director.

 

Eligibility:

    1. Demonstrated interest or experience in palliative care research or education;
    2. Have an interest in NPCREU’s overall mission and goals;
    3. Note: graduate students, academics from other universities, as well as clinicians with experience in palliative care clinical practice are encouraged to apply at the affiliate member level.
  1. Organizational members: Health care institutions, provincial and national associations, and community groups/societies dedicated to promoting palliative are research and education.

Eligibility:

  1. A commitment to work collaboratively with the NPCREU toward the achievement of common goals related to palliative care research and education.
