Biography

Betty Cragg's clinical interest has been children and families. She spent 17 years at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in positions ranging from Staff Nurse to Director of Nursing (Education and Research). In 1983, she became a professor at the University of Western Ontario. In 1991, Betty joined the University of Ottawa as Assistant Director, Post RN program. She has led curriculum revision and development, including developing and revising the collaborative undergraduate curriculum with local colleges. She was Director of the School of Nursing from 1996 to 2002 and from 2005 to 2006. She is now the Assistant Director, Undergraduate programs.  

Betty’s research interests are mainly in Nursing Education. She became interested in distance education for nurses while she was at the University of Western Ontario and has studied the needs and responses of nurses to professional education by distance at the Post RN, Nurse Practitioner and Master’s levels. Pursuing the theme of use of technology for teaching nurses, she has recently become interested in the use of clinical simulation for nursing education. She is also involved in research on Interprofessional Education.
