Researcher funding application support
Review of funding applications
In order to ensure that the highest quality grant applications are submitted by the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Research Development Officer checks applications for clarity of the text and to make sure that all application packages are complete and that guidelines are followed. Research proposals can then be forwarded to an expert in the field for an evaluation of their scientific and technical merit.
NOTE: researchers applying for external grants who wish to get their proposals assessed internally must submit their proposal to the Research Development Officer at least 10 working days before the internal University of Ottawa deadline for the competition.
Information sessions (SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR)
The Faculty of Health Sciences Research Office regularly organizes information seminars so that researchers get an update about the latest news and changes to SSHRC, NSERC and CIHR grant programs. The Research Development Officer assists individual as well as teams of researchers at all stages and in all aspects of grant proposals including:
- Matching and forwarding new funding opportunities as they arise;
- Discussing strategies (most appropriate type of grant and granting agency, what expertise is needed, pilot versus full grant proposals, etc.);
- Helping in the formation of research teams for grant proposals;
- Liaising between researchers and University services (such as Technology Transfer & Business Enterprise in the case of research contracts and overheads, Materials Management and architect for cost estimates, Research Grants & Ethics Services for deadlines and institutional signatures, etc.);
- Assessing and editing proposal texts;
