Biography

After my studies at Laval University, I completed my PhD in sociology at Lancaster University in England. I was interested in Inca heritage revival movements and cultural changes occasioned by the fast development of international tourism in Peru. During my postdoctoral studies in the “Chaire de recherche du Canada en patrimoine urbain” (UQAM), I worked on festivals or the “festivalisation” of society from the perspective of identity and imagination renewals. This experience also gave me the opportunity to contribute in projects of sustainable tourism development and revitalization of indigenous heritage in Mexico.

After working one year as a full time lecturer in Leeds Metropolitan University, England, I started my present appointment as assistant professor at the School of Human Kinetics, University of Ottawa.

I am currently interested in tourism mobilities and social exclusion / inclusion in poor region such as the South Andes of Peru, in diverse projects related to heritage management and transformations occurring after the World Heritage Sites designation of UNESCO (see: http://whtrn.ca) and more recently, I am working on a research project with a partnership with Right To Play, looking at sport for development programs for Canadian aboriginal youth.
