Biography
Diane Ste-Marie completed her B. Ed. at McGill University and moved on to do her graduate studies at McMaster University. Both her master's (M. Sc.: Human Biodynamics) and doctoral studies (Ph.D.: Cognitive psychology) concentrated on the cognitive processes of memory and perception. Diane has been with the School of Human Kinetics since 1993 and is responsible for teaching courses related to the area of psychomotor behavior. She has been very active in research on a variety of topics. Most recently, research funding through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council has allowed her to investigate the importance of self-regulatory processes associated with observational learning, specifically observation of the self. This research examines the contributions of observational learning to both motor skill learning and competitive performance. Within her observational learning research, Diane also explores the functions of observational learning used by athletes, coaches and sport officials. An additional research line involves expertise and biases in sport officials, such as judges and referees.
