Biography
Since 1984, Jean Harvey has specialized in sports and health sociology. He first acquired expertise on issues affecting sports policies in Canada and abroad through several research projects funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. This research led to publications on development of sport policies in the context of a welfare state, policies on access to sports for all, policies on high-performance sport and requests made by Canadian professional sport franchises for government funding. Since the mid-1990s, his funded research projects have also focused on the issue of globalization of sports and development of the Canadian sports industry in this context. His latest research focuses on sport and citizenship, more precisely on the issue of citizens' social and cultural rights. He also worked as Assistant Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Health Sciences from 1992 to 1998. In June 2001, he became the first director of the Research Centre for Sport in Canadian Society.
