Biomechanics

Biomechanics

This domain group is interested in the biomechanical and physical basis of human motion and the affects of forces on the human body. Current research programs include advancing the understanding of joint biomechanics to optimize joint function in normal, elderly and pathological populations; research that defines the mechanism of head injury, engineering research for more effective ways to prevent head injuries and research in setting international standards for the performance of protection equipment in preventing impact injuries in sport.

Several important collaborations exist with local area hospitals, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine as well as other departments on campus and research institutes.
