BiographySylvie Lauzon is a Full Professor at the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences. Professor Lauzon began her professional career as a clinical nurse and worked in several environments of care, including acute care, long-term care, community health care, and primary health care in the Northern Québec. Professor Lauzon held project management positions at the Order of Nurses of Québef and the Québec Ministry of Education before becoming a professor at the Faculty of Nursing at the Université de Montréal in 1988. In July 2002, she joined the University of Ottawa as the Director of the School of Nursing and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. In 2005, Professor Lauzon became the Associate Vice-President, Academic, and was charged with the task of maintaining the quality and relevance of undergraduate programs and Francophone affairs. In 2010, Professor Lauzon received an Honoris Causa Doctorate for her commitment to university education in French in French minority settings. Professor Lauzon has received numerous grants from provincial and national research councils for her work that focuses on family caregivers’ health, and nursing care for older adults. She has published two books for which she received prizes, chapters in books, and many articles in research and professional journals. She has been invited to teach in universities in both South Korean and Spain, and to present conferences on nursing ontology and nursing care for older adults in Canada and internationally. Her current research interests are nursing epistemology and measures to promote better cohesion between the components of the discipline of nursing, namely practice, research and education.
