Master of Health Sciences in Audiology
Word from the Director
Welcome to the only French-language audiology program outside Quebec!
It is with great pride that I welcome you to the Audiology stream of the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Program. Audiology deals with hearing and balance disorders through instrumentation, hearing aids and strategies for improving hearing and communication.
In Ottawa, training is available in a bilingual environment. Courses are taught in French; however, students may be required to complete fieldwork placements in French or English. A part of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences and the Faculty of Health Sciences, our staff and students have the opportunity to work in close collaboration in an interprofessional setting with colleagues in other health professions.
Our program first opened its doors to audiology students in September 1994. In this master’s program, students learn the fundamentals of speech and hearing science, anatomy, physiology and professional practice, and take specialized courses on the peripheral and central auditory system, hearing assessment, hearing amplification, rehabilitation, paediatric audiology, occupational audiology and counselling. Graduates are qualified to work in any Canadian province or territory. They can be found working in hospitals, private clinics, schools, industry, hearing aid companies, universities and government agencies.
Communication is required to work, study, socialize and express emotion! Come and help break down the wall of silence by enrolling in our program. You will be helping those who have difficulties communicating or who are unable to communicate. You will be part of an exciting, recognized program, receive expert guidance and develop strong working relationships with clinics, all in a bilingual setting. Please explore the individual pages on our professors and familiarize yourself with the wealth of their research.
