Health Sciences Interprofessional University ClinicMarch 29, 2007 Congratulations to the proponents of the Faculty of Health Sciences’ Interprofessional University Clinic! Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities have granted the Faculty of Health Sciences a major and substantial development fund to be used over the next 30 months! In its first five months of operation, this university clinic provided interprofessional training to nearly 70 students from six different disciplines (audiology, occupational therapy, medicine, speech-language pathology, physiotherapy and nursing). While continuing to pursue their training, these students served more than 80 children and adults from the community by providing more than 450 interventions. The services were delivered in clients’ homes, in schools, and in the Faculty of Health Sciences’ training labs, under the supervision of expert clinicians in each discipline. This training setting provides students with a concrete way of acquiring collaborative know-how, experiencing applied knowledge sharing, and developing a sense of interprofessional respect. In addition, the clinic’s timely and quality services delivered free of charge make for very satisfied clients.
